A father and his son are being held without bail in Florida for savagely molesting two young sisters over the course several years, authorities said.
Leslie Ross Sr., 69, and Leslie Ross Jr., 47, both of DeLand, are facing charges of sexual battery and lewd or lascivious molestation in connection to the sexual abuse of two girls – now ages 13 and 11 – beginning in 2006, when they were just 5 and 3 years old, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.
The investigation was launched last February, after the victims’ mother reported the diabolical abuse to authorities. The girls then provided consistent details of a “sustained pattern of abuse” by Ross and his namesake son, according to sheriff’s spokesman Andrew Gant.
In 2006, Ross Sr. was investigated for sexual battery after one of the girls, then 2 years old, told her mother that he touched her inappropriately.
“A similar report was made to the state Department of Children and Families in 2007,” Gant said in a news release. “Volusia County sheriff’s investigators filed an affidavit with the State Attorney’s Office charging Ross Sr. with sexual battery, but the case was not able to be prosecuted.”
Ross Jr., meanwhile, was also investigated by authorities in 2006 for a possible relationship with a student while working as a teacher at Taylor Middle-High School in Pierson, where he was hired in 1997. He resigned from his position one day after the accusation was made and lost his teaching certification from the Florida Department of Education. He also was barred from working in the Volusia County School District, Gant said.
Both pedophiles surrendered to authorities on Tuesday at the Volusia County Branch Jail, where they were being held without bail. It was unclear whether they had hired attorneys.
