Thirteen male athletes have been arrested at a Texas high school for what is being characterized as a sadistic hazing ritual where they savagely anally raped at least 10 underclassmen with various objects.
The small town of La Vernia, Texas, has been rocked by a major homosexual assault case where nearly a dozen student athletes are accused of raping other students as a sports initiation practice, according to police.
Three members of the basketball team at La Vernia High School, Colton Weidner, 18; Christian Roberts, 18; and John Rutkowski, 18, were arrested on a charge of second-degree felony sexual assault on Tuesday.
This brings the total number of men arrested to 13, as six adult and seven juvenile students have been accused of the sexual assault where they savagely raped at least 10 other male students with Gatorade and Coke bottles, flashlights and the threaded end of a carbon dioxide tank, according to police.
Weidner, Roberts, Rutkowski and an unnamed minor were involved in an incident where a 15-year-old was sodomized by the basketball players with a flashlight in February, reported the San Antonio Express.
Other students involved in the large investigation are football players Alejandro ‘Alex’ Ibarra, 18; Dustin Norman, 18; and Robert Olivarez Jr., 17, who savagely sodomized a 16-year-old teammate with the threaded end of a carbon dioxide tank to initiate the minor into the varsity team, according to police.
They were arrested in late March.
The Texas Rangers took over the case on April 3 to ensure impartially as most of the suspects and victims involved in the case know the local law enforcement agents in the 1,200 person town.
A federal lawsuit was filed on Tuesday and alleges that coaches and officials at the high school ‘turned a blind eye toward the abuse’ and allowed the ritual to continue even after the abuse was reported, the lawsuit claims.
In the suit, the victim, identified as Child Doe, claims to have been homosexually assaulted when he was 15 years old and had just been bumped up from the junior varsity team to the varsity football team, when he was told to ‘get ready’ by upperclassman teammates.
A short time afterwards, three older students forced him to the ground and forced a Gatorade bottle inside his anus over his shorts inside the locker room.
Throughout the academic school year of 2015-2016, the victim claims he was harassed and bullied multiple times by the upperclassman on the football team.
The following year, the minor also claims to have been homosexually assaulted by senior members of the varsity team, this time with a cardboard tube from a coat hanger.
Local police have said that the hazing included members from the school’s football, baseball and basketball programs and could have started in the 2014-2015 school year.
La Vernia police Chief Bruce Ritchey confirmed in March that the hazing primarily involved the football team at the school, and the basketball and baseball teams were involved to a lesser degree.
The horrific stories emerged after one child told police they were homosexually assaulted in the boys’ bathroom of the school, a parent told Fox San Antonio.
His admission led to two others coming forward, the parent, who did not want to be identified, said.
‘I’m frustrated,’ the parent added. ‘If these things are going on in the school, how do I know my child is safe going there?’
One mother told Fox San Antonio that a gang of boys held down her son and other victims, and forced foreign objects into their rectums.
She said she only became aware of the harm done to her boy when he told her he did not want to attend football practice.
She added: ‘Kids were holding them down in the locker rooms, there was a lookout at the door watching for coaches not to come.
‘They hold them down and stick various items up their rectum… including coke bottles, deodorant bottles, steel pipes, baseball bats and broomsticks.’
