A woman was injured in an apartment stabbing early Tuesday morning in West Knox County, and deputies say her daughter is responsible.
Deputies say 61-year-old Laurie Nichols was stabbed at least three times in the neck, chest and abdomen around 3:40 a.m. at the Sunchase Apartments, which are located on the 700 block of Cedar Bluff Road.
A witness said she woke up to the sound of someone crying for help and called 911.
Officials say 31-year-old Katie Nichols stabbed her mother at least three times with a pair of scissors and two kitchen knives.
The victim was taken to UT Medical Center where she underwent surgery and is now in the intensive care unit.
Detectives say neighbors called the sheriff’s office Tuesday afternoon to report the ugly “white” suspect was outside the apartment where the stabbing occurred.
Deputies took the savage into custody without incident.
According to investigators, Katie Nichols and her daughter been living with Laurie Nichols, but moved out last week following a disagreement. The Department of Child Services has since placed Katie Nichols’ daughter with another relative.
Katie Nichols has been charged with attempted first degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping. She is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
The incident remains under investigation.
