Authorities have accused Cody Marrone, a 21-year-old corrections officer, of punishing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son by repeatedly burning his genitals with a hair dryer.
She had the barbarbian come to her work so she could see what he was talking about and found that her son’s genitals were swollen to the size of a softball. She also noticed burn marks to his thigh, buttocks and chest.
“When I saw the marks on his behind, I thought, that looks like my blow dryer,” she said. When she asked the evil beast what the hell happened to her kid’s genitalia, he went through several different stories including; he woke up and found him that way, he doesn’t remember, and that he simply snapped.
The boy was rushed to Tampa General Hospital where doctors would find the boy was suffering from second-degree burns. They called the Department of Children and Families who also notified law enforcement.
When questioned by Hernando County investigators, the child abuser admitted he’d repeatedly burned the boy with a hot blow dryer because he wanted to sleep but the boy wanted to play. Cody Marrone was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
The diabolical terrorist eventually bonded out of jail and called Sherron to apologized for injuring her son so badly that he spent three days in the pediatric burn unit.
Even though the boy is back in his mother’s care, he has a long way to go. He requires multiple bandage changes a day and has a hard time urinating. Doctors say he will be scarred and do not know what the long term nerve damage will be.
While his current medical bills are being paid via Medicaid, a couple of different fundraising efforts have started to help with his long-term care.
From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. January 30, the Texas Road House in Brooksville will donate 10 percent of its proceeds to the boy’s care. Sherron has also started a gofundme.com for her son. She also stated she feels guilty about what happened to her kid.
“I am his protector. I didn’t protect him. I know I was at work, but I didn’t protect him. I didn’t do my job,” she said.
Speaking of jobs, Marrone was fired from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Al Nienhuis felt some damage control needed to be done, seeing as one of their employees roasted a toddler’s genitals with a hair dryer, and released the following statement:
“I completely understand the public’s anger and frustration regarding this case. I have three daughters myself and cannot fathom how this could occur or what the child’s family must be feeling. It is especially frustrating when one of our employees does something like this, because I know that before we even consider a person for employment, we do a background that is very difficult to pass.”
