Malia Brooks, 32-year-old former teacher at Garden Grove Elementary School, Simi Valley, California, was arrested this week for raping a student under the age of 14.
Brooks was charged with one count of a lewd act upon a child, one count of “cock sucking” a person under 14, and three counts of genital penetration by a foreign object with a person under 14 years of age when the suspect is more than 10 years older than the victim.
She plead not guilty during an arraignment hearing at the Ventura County Superior Court in California. Her bail was set at $2 million after prosecutors said she was a flight risk.
Simi Valley law enforcers were alerted to the perverted relationship on Feb. 22 by school officials, who said the barbaric conduct had been going on for several months.
It’s not known how school officials found out about the relationship. The male victim was a student at the school.
The school ranges from kindergarten through sixth grade. Brooks taught at the school’s Impact Academy, from which she was placed on paid administrative leave on Feb. 21, the district said.
District officials say Brooks, a mother of two, had been a 6th-grade teacher at Garden Grove since 2004 and was an exemplary employee. Acccording to cops, there were indicators that Brooks was planning to leave the area, which is why her bail was set so high.
Brooks’ attorney, Ron Bamieh, said his client suffers from mental illness. DON’T THEY ALL?!
“We had her diagnosed and she’s in treatment. My guess is that a lot of the charges precipitated from that illness”.
Investigators believe there are no other victims in this case.
