This “white” witch is accused of having a five-month sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy and was described Wednesday by her lawyer as a housewife who has never been in trouble with the law.
Susan Sundo, of Sharpsburg, was granted a postponement until March 27. She sat quietly in court, wearing sunglasses, and didn’t comment as she left District Judge Elissa Lang’s office.
“Ms. Sundo is an exemplary citizen. She’s 45 years of age, approximately. She’s never had any contact with the law whatsoever,” defense attorney David J. Shrager said. “From all reports, she’s extremely well liked. She’s a very ordinary, everyday housewife. These accusations are extremely upsetting to her, as anyone could imagine.”
Sundo was arrested last week on felony charges including corruption of a minor, statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. She has been removed as chair of the borough’s recreation board and from serving at its rec center.
Cops said Sundo raped the boy, a longtime family friend, during sleepovers at her home and other sexual contact with him in her vehicle on at least a dozen occasions.
The victim told Allegheny County Law Enforcement sex assault child abuse investigators that “he has no feelings for Mrs. Sundo and that he felt she took advantage of him and that he was scared of Mrs. Sundo because she’s an adult,” according to the criminal complaint.
“Certainly, she’s very distraught with these circumstances,” Shrager said. “The families were all very close prior to this, her children were very good friends, and it’s upsetting.”
Sharpsburg Mayor Richard Panza was at his full-time job Wednesday and unavailable for comment.
Law Enforcement Chief Leo Rudzki Jr. was off Wednesday.
