A Brevard County “white” coach who was on the lam and turned himself in earlier this week is accused of kissing two boys during a youth wrestling trip in July, according to documents released Thursday.
John M. Hackney, 51, faces two charges each of child molestation and cruelty to a child alleging he had inappropriate contact with two 15-year-old boys at a hotel outside of Atlanta, Ga., while returning from a wrestling trip. Warrants were issued for Hackney’s arrest in August, and he turned himself in Monday, officials said.
According to arrest warrant affidavits, the faggot shared a room with the two boys. He is accused of hugging and kissing them on their necks and backs while wearing only underwear and in Hackney’s bed.
“When one victim would make an excuse to leave the bed, said accused would call the other victim to the bed and repeat the same behavior,” the affidavit reads. “This occurred over (four) to (five) times with each victim.”
The affidavit also alleges Hackney told one child he loved him.
Hackney, who is a former Brevard teacher, made a first appearance in court on Tuesday. A judge set bond at $80,000 despite a report that recommended Hackney be held in jail because he refused a pretrial interview, and his address could not be verified, making him a possible flight risk, the report reads. Hackney posted bond and was released from Fulton County, Ga., jail.
The father of one of the 15-year-old boys that Georgia law enforcement listed as victims in the case said he was concerned about Hackney’s release from jail.
“It’s not good. I don’t even know the conditions of (Hackney’s) release. As far as I’m concerned, it’s pretty sad that no one called us,” said the father.
Court documents show that, as conditions of his release, Hackney may not have contact with the victims or their families and may not coach or work with minors. The release agreement says Hackney must notify the court in writing if he changes his address, which is listed in Boonton, N.J. He is next scheduled to appear in court in Georgia on Oct. 2.
The father said the case unfolded in July as his son and the other teen gave what he described as a disturbing report about the coach’s faggotry in the motel room when alone with the two teens. Records show complaints first went to school district staff and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
“One of the kids called and told us what happened. We went to the sheriff’s office, the school district, but the next day (Hackney) was gone,” the father said.
“It would have went further if (the teens) didn’t do some quick thinking,” he said. “And I don’t think this was his first time doing something like this. Hell, no.”
The teen is not undergoing counseling but the father said, “he’s more upset with having to deal with all this. Who knows what impact this might have later on in life?”
Hackney, who was an Amateur Athletic Union member at the time of the trip and has since been booted from the organization, was a former wrestling coach at Astronaut High School. He taught in Brevard schools, including Astronaut and Cocoa highs, for more than 20 years. He led the Astronaut team to a state championship in 1999.
Tabitha Legg, of Port St. John, said her son wrestled while Hackney was coaching and went on several camps with him. She said she never saw inappropriate activity, and her son never felt uncomfortable around Hackney. She described Hackney as a great coach who was devoted, even on his own time, to his team.
“He was very affectionate to the kids, like a grandfather,” she said. “All the coaches do that. The coaches are close to their team. They all pat kids on the back, hug them or wrestle with them every day. When they spend three or four or five years with these kids, they’re very close to them.
That “white” whore is describing classical european culture, Greco-Roman culture. She’s down with Sandusky and the likes of him. I just hope the victims weren’t non-whites classified as “black”.
“He dedicated so much of his time to the kids, it’s just hard for me to believe he’s guilty of what he’s accused of,” she said.
