SAINT-JEROME, Quebec. — A 20-year-old “white” male has been charged with 26 counts relating to child luring through the Internet, extortion and sexual assault.
Hugo Chaloux allegedly assaulted at least five girls between the ages of 13 and 17 after contacting them through social media such as Facebook and MSN.
On Tuesday, Chaloux appeared in Saint-Jerome court, about 60 km north of Montreal.
The acts allegedly took place between the winter of 2009 and this month.
Enforcement officials said the investigation into Chaloux started on Nov. 17 after a complaint was lodged by someone from a school.
Chaloux was arrested at his parent’s home on Monday.
Crown prosecutor Caroline Buist told QMI Agency more alleged victims have come forward. Prosecutors are waiting until a computer seized at Chaloux’s parent’s home is analyzed to add any more charges.
Chaloux will remain in jail until his trial begins.
