James Lester Rogers, a 25-year-old registered sex offender was arrested again Friday when police found him dressed up in a Cookie Monster outfit talking to children.
According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Rogers was handing out fliers and posing with children for pictures when police discovered him at the Mississippi Valley Fair dressed in a Cookie Monster costume.
Investigators say Roger’s identity was discovered when he walked up to a parole officer and began chatting with him.
Rogers was convicted in 2005 after he was found guilty of committing lascivious acts with a 7-year-old girl.
Rogers was chatting with the officer, who also works for the Scott County Sex Offender Task Force, when the officer recognized his voice and asked his identity.
Rogers reportedly complied and revealed his identity. He explained that he had been hired to work at the fair, and that greeting children as they entered the fair grounds was part of his job.
The terms of Roger’s probation, however, bars him specifically from working around children or entering fairgrounds.
Rogers was booked into jail on a charge of violating his probation. Other charges are likely.
